Benefits of Swimming

Swimming can offer anyone of any age a large range of health benefits. Swimming gives your body a workout while not exposing it to any harsh impacts. In this blog we will discuss some of these health benefits swimming can provide for your body.

Exercise Stronger

Swimming can be a full body workout without any high impact to your joints and muscles. If you are stiff and sore in muscles and joints or if you would like to lose some weight or suffer from arthritis, water is the perfect place to exercise. As you submerge in water you automatically become lighter.

The Arthritis Foundation suggested that stretching and strengthening muscles in a pool brings on relief. Why not try swimming a few laps or doing some aerobics and see how you feel?

Improve Muscle Tone

Swimming is one of the best ways to increase strength and muscle tone. Running might be drier and perhaps more convenient for some people, but when you run your body is charging through air. In comparison, a swimming is propelling through a medium that is ten times denser than air. Every stroke and kick is a resistance exercise. Resistance exercises are the great ways to build strength and muscle tone.

Control Your Weight

Swimming is one of the most recognized calorie burners. It is great of keeping your weight issues under control.

Increase Flexibility

Why work on just one area of the body at a time when you could work on your full body. Swimming gives you a wide range of motion to keep your joints and ligaments flexible. Your shoulders and hips are engaged while moving through the water, you turn your head and spine to either side. With every stroke you are moving and stretching your body. It is important to still stretch before and after you swimming.

Heart Health

Your heart is an extremely important muscle in your body. Swimming is an aerobic exercise and provides exercise to the heart. It gives the ability to pump more efficiently which in turn leads to improved blood flow. According to the Annals of Internal Medicine, blood pressure if also improved by swimming aerobically.

Stress Reduction

Everyone experiences different types of stress throughout their life, and perhaps for some it is daily. While you are swimming the body releases endorphins which can help with the feeling of relaxation. The constant stretching and relaxing of the muscles, along with the rhythmic deep breaths.
